Terumo led the commercialization of microporous hollow fiber membranes made of polypropylene in 1982 with its Capiox-II oxygenator that became the standard in the industry. It followed with its Capiox-E gravity drainage external perfusion type hollow fiber membrane oxygenator in 1988, its Capiox-SX (HP) and Capiox-RX blood-compatible hollow fiber membrane oxygenators in 1996 and 2000 and its Capiox-FX oxygenator with integrated arterial filter and biocompatible surface coating in 2008.
