Dr. Helen Kambic

Dr. Helen Kambic served as the Director of the Museum exhibits at the International Center for Artificial Organs and Transplantation (ICAOT) headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio. The Museum opened in 1981. She designed and built three galleries, cardiovascular, kidney and transplantation /implantation to chronicle the development of artificial organs and transplants as well as to offer a peak at future technology.  Some 2,000 items completed the Museum’s collection. In addition the Museum offered educational programs for scholars and students and served as a reception site for several professional societies. Several sections of exhibits were requested and sent to several other society meeting sites. During the 1990’s the Museum was moved to Houston under the direction of Dr. Y. Nose.

She was born (Helen Jablonski) and raised in Elizabeth, New Jersey.  In 1967 she obtained a  B.S. degree in Biology/Chemistry from St. Francis University in Loretto, Pa. and in 1969 a M.S. degree from Fordham University, Bronx, N.Y. She holds a Ph.D degree in Regulatory Biology from Cleveland State University,  Cleveland, Ohio.

Dr. Kambic retired as an Active Emeritus Staff of the Cleveland Clinic and continues to participate in selected research programs. She has 300 publications in numerous scientific and medical journals from the US and abroad regarding biomaterials for tissue engineering, biomaterial testing (in vitro and in vivo), material characterization and animal model evaluations. She continues to serve on several editorial boards and as a reviewer for many scientific journals.
